Overseas Expansion of Korean Medical Institutions

Guidance on the Reporting System for Overseas Expansion of Korean Medical Institutions

  • Korean medical institutions seeking to establish and operate medical facilities overseas, or provide various forms of medical services such as dispatching medical personnel, consulting, or technology transfer, must submit a prior overseas expansion notification in accordance with Korea's “Act on Support for Overseas Expansion of Medical Services and Attraction of Foreign Patients.” This notification system is operated to systematically manage medical service activities conducted overseas, establish government support policies, and create a safe environment for overseas expansion.
Reportable activities include establishing and operating overseas medical institutions, entrusted operation and consulting, dispatching medical personnel, transferring medical technology and information systems, providing medical devices and pharmaceuticals, and training overseas medical personnel. Upon completion of the report, a confirmation certificate is issued. This system is an essential procedure designed to enable domestic medical institutions to expand overseas operations stably and broaden global medical cooperation.
