Overview
Wonkwang University Hospital moved to Shinyong-dong, Iri-si in July 1984 with a new construction - total floor area of 23,000 m2 consisting of 1 underground level and 9 level above.
Currently, it is operating 2 management departments, 3 divisions, 14 centers, 27 medical departments, and 25 teams of administration, education, and healthcare support.
It leads advancing medical care in the Jeollabuk-do region, establishing a treatment center with outstanding medical experts and state-of-the-art medical equipment.
It holds the accreditation on the 4th cycle (from 2023 to 2027) as a medical institution certified by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and it obtained KAHF certification in 2023, effective until 2027. -
Cancer Treatment Specialist
As a renowned cancer specialist, it has consistently attained the highest level, Grade 1, in all four major cancer care assessments conducted by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service (HIRA). It has achieved Grade 1 for seven years in a row for colon and stomach cancer and six years for breast and lung cancer. With a team of specialists dedicated to developing cancer treatments, it provides specialized cancer management service.
Particularly noteworthy is its multidisciplinary treatment system for cancer patients with high severity, collaborated with internal medicine, surgery, rehabilitation medicine, and Korean traditional medicine. This system allows numerous patients to take high-risk surgeries successfully.
Its One Stop system enables fast precise diagnosis and treatment, in which a specialist is involved from the preliminary consultation with a patient.
It introduced the latest cancer treatment equipment, 'HyperArc-TruBeam STx,' which optimizes the effectiveness of radiation treatment. This marks a pioneering advancement in the Chungcheong and Honam regions. -
Quintuple Aim emergency medical system as the only one in Korea
It stands as a tertiary general hospital, distinguished by the exclusive implementation of the only Quintuple Aim emergency medical system in Korea, operating a regional cardiovascular disease center, a regional trauma center, a local emergency medical center, an emergency medical helicopter, and a multi-person hyperbaric oxygen treatment room.
With enhanced emergency medical services, Wonkwang University Hospital is dedicated to fulfilling its role as the representative emergency medical institution. Quintuple Aim envisions increasing the survival rate of emergency patients, utilizing an efficient patient transport system 24/7 effective for critically ill patients. -

Performance Data
Ultrasound endoscopy, commonly known as EUS (Endoscopic Ultrasound), is a diagnostic procedure in which a specialist inserts a specialized endoscope, equipped with a high-frequency ultrasound device, through the patient's mouth. It is then positioned closely to the walls of the stomach and duodenum to have high-resolution ultrasound images for detailed observation of the pancreas, gallbladder, and bile ducts.
Compared to a general abdominal ultrasound, EUS is not interrupted by air in the intestines, subcutaneous fat, or abdominal wall bones, so a surgeon can observe the pancreas, gallbladder, and bile ducts with better clarity.
EUS helps detect small lesions that may go unnoticed in abdominal ultrasound or CT scans and facilitate accurate diagnosis. As it can be performed in real time, EUS enables conclusive diagnostic process by obtaining tissue samples safely.
Furthermore, EUS offers better convenience to patients by allowing interventional procedures instead of resorting to surgical treatment for various pancreatic and biliary tract diseases. -
