Q&A
I wanted to check if it's still possible for a foreigner to get a VAT refund after they have already left Korea.
The receipt in question is a VAT refundable receipt with a QR code and other necessary details issued by a designated VAT refundable medical clinic. However, if the person forgot to process the refund before departure at the airport, would they still be able to apply from overseas?
If so, could you please let me know how the process works, such as what needs to be sent, where to send it, and how much time they have from the date on the receipt to complete the request?
Thank you
After leaving Korea, please scan and attach the required documents listed below and send them via email to one of the tax refund operators authorized to process VAT refunds.
You should also consult with them regarding your refund.
Please note that these documents must be submitted within 3 months from the date of receiving the medical service at a tax refund-affiliated clinic or hospital in Korea.
Required documents:
- A document confirming your departure date (e.g., flight ticket or boarding pass)
- A copy of your passport
- The Certificate of Medical Services Provided for Overseas Patient
- A 16-digit credit card number to receive the refund
