    - Kangnam St. Mary’s Hospital opened in 1980, and was reestablishedas Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital in 2009 with a brand new building and facility

    - Multidisciplinary team approach
    - Outstanding survival rate of gastric cancer patients (30% higher than MSKCC, USA)
    - 5-year survival rate was studied on 4,177 cancer patients from 1997 to 2012, and the 5-year survival rate of liver cancer patients treated at Seoul St. Mary’s Hospital stood at 30%, which is higher than the United States’ 16.6%, Canada’s 20.0% and Japan’s 27.9%

    ○ Organ Transplant Center
    - The 1st kidney transplant in Korea (1969)
    - The 1st post-BMT liver transplant in Korea (2002)
    - The 1st small intestine transplant (2004)
    - The 1st successful modified multi-organ transplant in Korea (2014)
    - Performed 932 cases of liver transplant & 2,588 cases of kidney transplant (as of 2015)

    ○ Blood & Marrow Transplantation Center
    - Asia’s largest BMT Center in terms of quality & quantity
    - The 1st allogenic marrow transplant in Korea (1983)

    ○ Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery Center
    - Introduction of the 4th generation Xi Da Vinci Robot (2009)
    - Fibroid Center became the first healthcare institution in Korea to perform more than 500 cases of Da Vinci Robot assisted surgery (2015.7)
    - Performed the 2,000 robotic surgery (as of 2016.8)

    ○ Pectus Excavatum Clinic
    - The largest number of minimal invasive pectus excavatum surgery performed in the world : more than 4,000 cases (450 cases annually)
    - Since performing the first Nuss procedure in 1999 for the first time in Korea, Professor Hyung-Joo Park is treating about 70% of domestic patients suffering from pectus excavatum. He holds the record of performing the highest number of surgeries both domestically and internationally.

Training Information
  • - Fellowship program at SSMH began in 2007, and more than 500 healthcare workers (doctors, nurses, medical technicians, etc.) from 57 countries have received advanced medical technologies from 38 clinical divisions and other support divisions as of October 2016.
    - Currently 9 Saudi physicians are being trained(including 2 dentists) and 7 completed training program
