Permission for Clinical Training (Hands-on Practice)

Guidelines on the Scope of Medical Practice for Trainees

Trainees who are approved for clinical practice in Korea are not allowed to perform medical procedures independently.

All medical practice must be conducted within the designated training hospital, under the supervision of a training specialist or an assigned cooperative specialist, and only with the patient’s prior informed consent.

The scope of clinical practice may vary depending on the trainee’s clinical competency, as assessed by the supervising professor. Therefore, some trainees may have a longer observation period before participating in hands-on training.

All trainees are expected to maintain clear and active communication with their supervising professors.

During the initial interview with the supervising professor, trainees are strongly advised to have a clear training goal and discuss their area of interest in detail.

It is important to mutually agree on the training focus through sufficient discussion to ensure proper matching with the professor’s specialty.

※ Hands-on practice is only permitted after obtaining official

approval from the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MoHW) of the

Republic of Korea. Please note that this approval process may take

at least 3 weeks after the end of the pre-training period.

Hands-on clinical training is only allowed with prior approval from

the supervising specialist, based on clinical safety and risk.

Trainees are not allowed to request or demand a specific amount of hands-on experience.
