Since its opening in 1983, Korea University Guro Hospital has played a central role in advancing Korean medicine.
Now, the hospital is striving to become a globally competitive medical institution by establishing a sophisticated medical hub. With the completion of an eight-story building with four basement levels in 2007 and the recent renovation of the main eight-story building with one basement level, it now offers an innovative environment with 1,075 beds and various customer convenience facilities.
The introduction of state-of-the-art equipment—including a Linear Accelerator, PET-CT, MRI 3.0T, 64-channel CT, one-stop laboratory system (TLA), digital angiocardiography, and angiography—and the implementation of Full PACS have enabled the hospital to create a medical environment that meets global standards.
The hospital provides high-quality medical services through specialized centers, such as the Cardiovascular Center, Cancer Center, Liver & Gastric Tract Center, Diabetes Center, Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Center, Skin Center, and other specialized clinics. The One-Day Care System has been expanded to include cardiovascular and diabetic surgeries, allowing examinations and procedures to be performed on the same day.
Additionally, the hospital focuses on addressing rare diseases and enhancing public medical services through its Rare and Incurable Disease Clinic and hospice ward. The Health Promotion Center, led by experienced medical professionals, is equipped with top-tier facilities and equipment, offering tailored checkup programs that promote preventive medicine. The Emergency Medical Center, designed to handle emergency patients in the area, has established a robust emergency response system, including a heliport atop the new building for rapid patient transfers. It features organ transplant operation rooms, advanced operating rooms with the latest ventilation systems, and intensive care units equipped with cutting-edge HEPA filters.
Korea University Guro Hospital is dedicated not only to patient care but also to education. The hospital fosters core medical talent through overseas training programs and offers well-structured academic opportunities for foreign medical students as well as Korean interns. It also accommodates apprentice nurses from five nursing colleges and provides training for medical engineers from health and science colleges, helping them envision their career paths.
The hospital also excels in research, in addition to its educational capabilities. With numerous SCI papers published, it conducts government-funded projects such as the Skin Laboratory Medical Center, Clinical Test Center for Medical Equipment (the first of its kind in Korea), the Type 2 Diabetes Research Center, the Korea Lung Tissue Bank, the Korea Human Bio-Repository Network, and the Metabolic Syndrome Research Project. In particular, the Industrial-Academic Cooperation Network leverages the specific characteristics of the local area to promote research activities, including clinical testing of medical equipment and medical scientific research.
